Salary Position
Safety & Environmental and Continuous Improvement Coordinator
DUTIES:
· Assist in safety and environmental policies and regulatory compliance law implementation.
· Monitor environmental compliance issues and report as required to Federal, State and Local authorities as required.
· Monitor OSHA regulations and apply them to manufacturing environment to assure compliance and improve the safety of KSM.
· Monitor production processes to assure ISO 14001 compliance.
· Assist or lead internal ISO 14001 audits to ensure conformity.
· Coordinate internal and external ISO 14001 audits to main certification.
· Assists in planning, preparation, set-up, and implementing continuous improvement projects and A4S projects under the direction of the Plant Head.
· Performs hands-on tasks that might include the operation and use of machines, power tools, hand tools, etc.
· Conduct safety audits and risk assessments of tasks and equipment, focusing on prediction and prevention of safety issues.
· Coordinates with all departments and shifts in order to promote and maintain proper coordination of continuous improvement projects, safety & environmental projects, Kaizen events, KWK projects, and A4S projects.
· Reviews and analyzes progress of all events/projects to develop ideas to ensure achievement of effective processes, associate satisfaction, cost efficiency, etc., and reports results to Plant Head.
· Compiles and displays information and pictures with respect to A4S, KWK’s, HH’s and Kaizen events.
· Sends out daily KWK and HH results, encouraging all departments to hit monthly targets.
· Assists with DOJO workshop, Safety and Environmental training as needed.
· Train associates or groups to improve safety culture throughout KSM.
· Incident investigation to determine root cause and proper countermeasures.
Qualifications:
· High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
· Understand environmental regulations.
· Understand OSHA regulations and apply it to manufacturing environment
· Reading, writing, and basic math skills. Comprehend and follow procedures.
· Excellent safety, attendance, and above average performance ratings preferred.
· Ability to learn quickly with excellent leadership skills.
· Ability to work any shift is required.
· Ability to “think outside the box” and follow the philosophy of “creativity before capital”.
· Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
· Demonstrated abilities in personal computer operation; Proven experience with Microsoft Programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
· Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to operate or use machines, power tools, hand tools, etc. is required.

· Setup and change dies, riser tubes and other related equipment of double-cavity or single cavity low-pressure casting machines.
· Control valves, dials, and computer touch screens of machines to regulate pressure, temperature, and set cycle times.
· Observe meters and gauges to verify and record temperatures, pressures, and cycle times, and make adjustments as necessary.
· Visually inspect and measure products for surface and dimensional defects to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments and take action to correct any issues.
· Observe all cooling lines to ensure proper connections.
· Set up parameters according to check sheet guidelines and troubleshoot issues as necessary.
· Perform maintenance on dies in casting machines such as greasing, stoning, chiseling, and coating. Also perform general housekeeping and 5S of working areas.
· Operate torch for die plugging issues, metal spills, etc.
· Assist in orienting and training associates regarding machinery, equipment, operating procedures, etc. and assist operators in end of shift paperwork, setups, quality, etc.
POSTION QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED), with strong arithmetic skill
· Six months or more of related department experience is preferred

Skill
2. Department Specific:
a. Understanding and application of cosmetic and functional standards for all wheel types.
b. Ability to maintain production control flow, charts, downtime records, and defect records.
c. Ability to inspect wheels visually to ensure cosmetic standards are followed at the inspection station, bushing presses, and packing area per procedures.
d. Demonstrate knowledge of equipment set up for Micro Poise (MP) and bushing presses.
e. Computer skills to operate MP.
f. Basic skills to operate small hand tools.
g. Demonstrate knowledge of safety and handling of chemicals on a limited basis.
Responsibility
2. Safety: Responsible for wearing PPE, 5S, reporting potential safety issues, reporting accidents timely, etc.
3. Quality: Check every wheel for obvious defects, damage, reworked properly etc. Zero functional defects (ex: bushings, shrink balance/run out going to customer and minimal number of cosmetic defects).
4. Output: Meet established targets for each shift and work a reasonable amount of overtime when required.
5. Cost Control: Avoid excessive use of gloves, foam retention, 5S supplies, bushings, etc.
6. Teamwork/Communications: Work together to achieve overall first time through, yield, and goals. Assisting in training new associates and participation in the Aim/KWK programs is highly encouraged. Communicate any issues to the First Line Supervisor as they occur.
7. Rotation within the department is required, must have the skills to function in all jobs.
8. Record keeping for the MP, bushing presses, inspection tables and for rework per procedure.
9. Attendance: Demonstrate excellent attendance.
10. Perform other duties as assigned by the department First Line Supervisor, department Supervisor and/or Superintendent.
Effort
1. Handle approximately 300 wheels pack/hour and an average 200 wheels inspection/hour at peak period during an 11-hour shift.
a. Wheel weights from 13 lbs to 26 lbs.
b. Pick up wheels from approximately 32” high and place from 7” ~ 54” high.
c. Distance between pick-up and placement is approximately 40” ~ 120”
2. Handle approximately 60 plastic dividers per hour during an 11- hour shift.
a. Divider pieces per hour and weights are 60 pieces average @ 13 lbs and 10 bases at 29 lbs each.
b. Pick up dividers from approximately 7 to 58” high and drop off at 7 to 58” high
c. Distance between pick up and drop off is approximately 10’.
3. Constant standing on padded concrete floors, constant bending and frequent pushing, pulling or turning while moving wheels and dividers/Bases.
4. Effort required in rework (see Rework Job Responsibilities).
Environment
1. Tolerate temperatures up to 90 degrees in a ventilated area during summer months.
2. Work with some rework chemicals and dust using proper PPE.
Entry Level Qualifications
1. Six months company service.
